And perhaps that is why, for once in the five-season history of the series, Edith does not have the worst luck in an episode. It certainly feels as though Edith, in a haze of love for her illegitimate child, is beginning to. Downton Abbey knows its worth, and hopefully one day, Daisy will learn the same. So good on it for offering up a new episode opposite the Hollywood awards show. Unlike the Oscars, Downton Abbey doesn’t suffer fashion misfires or the travesty of tawdry red carpet.
